I replied by email with a revision of my own which I was pleased with, reducing word count from 621 words, to 461. without losing much, and what was lost was not relevant to my story. I sent that to RR by email and he revised it again to 312 words. RR's version is an instructive illustration of strict editing, but there are points I don't agree with and I have replied accordingly. There will no doubt be further response and I may learn more, or we may just agree to differ.

If all this is of interest I can send you (or any other readers) copies of the revisions to date.Sir Hughhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17908756392825206914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1365582190126322848.post-37734096458988373072019-03-26T06:55:32.628+00:002019-03-26T06:55:32.628+00:00Gayle: I don't find it offensive. Perhaps especially.Roderick Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16828395545197001637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1365582190126322848.post-81313289439958603452019-03-25T20:04:30.424+00:002019-03-25T20:04:30.424+00:00For what it's worth, Conrad, I have never once...For what it's worth, Conrad, I have never once read one of your blog posts and thought it too wordy. The superfluity your brother found offensive in this post completely escaped my notice. I may even try that just for the exercise. Ever since you mentioned the well established research that most peoples attention span, when reading news items, or blog posts, is around 300 words, I have noticed myself often cutting off at that point - it is so true. However, what you say is only your opinion. I include some information which I think would be of interest to the majority of my audience who have similar interests and pastimes to my own which the professional journalist would probably omit.Sir Hughhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17908756392825206914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1365582190126322848.post-70888472107267491812019-03-24T08:03:28.175+00:002019-03-24T08:03:28.175+00:00No comment so let me add one. You may even be waiting for your second or third thoughts to arrive instead making do with your first. All that remains - as it always has - is to cut out the superfluities. This post could be reduced by a third and the impact would be infinitely greater. Remember: being comprehensive is only a virtue if you're compiling a telephone directory.Roderick Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16828395545197001637noreply@blogger.com
