Photoshop painting - shooting butt 2

Wednesday 5th December 2018

Here is the final painting. I am not totally satisfied, but I have got to the point where I have had enough of it. The butt seems somehow too dominant  but to alter that would mean more or less starting over.

BC commented that the original sketch was preferable - I'm not sure if that was serious, but I saw some merit in the observation so I did another one paying just a little more attention. It shows that a watercolour effect can be achieved whereas the final is more closely related to acrylic. It only took about ten minutes, but the final picture has taken hours. I'm going for a lie down now.

  1. humm - tend to agree - a bit Maginot line like now ! or Vauban, if that's your era !

  2. I was down at the Lowry gallery in Salford at the weekend to view the Pre-Raphaelite exhibition.
Many of Rossetti's sketches were as interesting as his completed works, one sees his artistry in action. The same applies to Lowry's output.
    Worth a visit .

  3. gimmer - The painting was taken from my photo. The object had obviously only just been built and was in pristine condition and down in the valley where construction would have been mor amenable than on the windswept hills, so the result was s much stouter and prominent version than one normally sees. It looked like one made as a training exercise for thr would-be apprentice. For me, it would have been better to find a more decrepit one.

  4. BC - It is interesting to see the earlier works of famous artists who have progressed to incomprehensible abstraction. It can be partly reassuring to learn that they are capable at basic drawing and lifelike representation.
