I have found many people overlook this part of the blog which is often more interesting than the original post!

My blog nick-name is SIR HUGH. I'm not from the aristocracy - my middle name is Hugh which relates to the list of 282 hills in Scotland compiled by Sir Hugh Munro in 1891. I climbed my last one (Sgurr Mor) on 28th June 2009

Quad Rescue Mission

Monday 5th June 2023 - Quad Gun Tractor diorama finished.

The Quad Gun Tractor's engine has blown. See the oil mess underneath. The Willys jeep has brought out a replacement engine; the old one is now dumped in the jeep's trailer and the replacement about to be installed. The officer with his brown leaather waistcoat, brown shoes and black beret is supervising at a distance.

Making the video was a learning curve and I think I may improve in future, at least, if nothing else, using a tripod. I was helped in the use of iMovie by my daughter Jill after I had spent too much time getting nowhere with what was only minor editing.

  2. IBC - suppose this secondary pursuit of mine is difficult to appreciate for those who are not so involved.

  3. You seem to know more about desert warfare and conditions than you have been letting on !

  4. gimmer - I know you have been reading comments by Big Brother recently imploring everybody to use their imagination - that is what I have done here and make no claims whatsoever for authenticity.

  5. I'm actually very impressed with the imagination and inventiveness of your 'dioramas' (not a word I've met before its employment in your posts): the models themselves are excellent but more or less have to follow the book - whereas the dioramas bring individuality and life to the execution, and the drama, colour and character of their real life purpose (not quite sure about that last for what are mostly weapons of war, but I'll let that pass as they are of course, for the most part, there to 'win or keep the peace' . . . the German tractor was found 'not guilty' at Nü.... . . .).
Soon you will need an attic to display them, I imagine.

  6. gimmer - yes, I find the diorama more interesting. If you are making a pristine, showroom condition model there is no room for error, everything has to be perfect - there are competitions where the detail considered essential becomes too nerdish for me. With a diorama any bodge can be disguised as fair wear and tear, and the diorama concept adds another dimension with its story etc. Quite different approaches, and the latter suits me more.
