My blog nick-name is SIR HUGH. I'm not from the aristocracy - my middle name is Hugh which relates to the list of 282 hills in Scotland compiled by Sir Hugh Munro in 1891. I climbed my last one (Sgurr Mor) on 28th June 2009

Mystery car update (2)

Friday 8th February 2019

I received a prompt reply from Aston Martin (more prompt than TVR) - does that say something?

As far as I'm concerned I have now solved the mystery, but it has been a good exercise arising from note taken of items of interest seen on walks and followed up in this way.

Here is a link to a review of this replica car which also contains an Ebay link to the original listing - looks like there were only five of them ever made.

Good Morning Mr Robinson,

Thank you for the email and the intriguing image.

It looks as though the car is a replica of an ‘80s V8 Vantage Volante. Tellingly, the front and rear bumpers aren’t correct to the original design specification, the rear lights are in the incorrect location and the convertible hood line isn’t of the original profile. A search of ‘Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante’ will show you the model on which the car photographed seems to be based.

I hope this helps

Kind regards

James

  1. Their prompt reply underlies their class.

  2. When a company receives a complaint, or an enquiry it is a golden opportunity to show how good they are. Anybody can give good service when things go right, but the test comes when they don't. In the case of an enquiry it is all too often that one gets no reply at all. Full marks to Aston Martin. When I win the Lottery...
